Honda Repair: fuel systems, gas tank, honda accord

Question
hello,  I accidently poured either oil or transmission fluid into my gas tank as my brother put it in my gas can and i assumed it was still gas.  i ran it for maybe a 1/4 mile before it sputtered and figured out and checked the gas can.  how much damage do you think and to what engine parts? thank you in advance.  Dennis

97 Honda Accord SE 4 cylinder

Answer
Dennis,
It all depends how much you poured in. Since the car sputtered, I imagine it was a decent amount. What I would recomment doing is having the tank drained, and the fuel system flushed (lines and injecors) (first I would put about 5 gallons of fresh gas in the tank, to help disipate the oil.
I doubt that you did any damage, but if you keep running the car, you may run into more problems.
Good luck and thanks for the question,
Gene
