Land Rover Repair: Heating problem 96 Discovery, engine teardown, coolent

Question
Dear Sir/Madam,
Question Please.
I have replaced the radiator, viscious fan motor, thermostat, radiator hoses. The vehicle temperature needle would remain midway, and then the temp gage will move 3/4 way up towards over heating for some reason. When I turn on the van and open the heat vents the temp gage returns back to normal. When Fort Landrover Worth TX installed the new Radiator they say they did get all the air out of the lines. I had all the fluids changed and the compression is good. I am not loosing any coolent from the tank. What else could be causing the vehicle to over heat?
Please help me, I don't know what to do anymore.
Just last week it cost just under 3K to replace the fan motors the radiator.
I really love my LD.
Thank you kindly
Steve

Answer
There is a good article on Land Rover overheating on my Robison Service website.  I am sorry to say, when you have exhausted all the options for overheating, what remains is a leak within the engine block.  That calls for complete engine teardown and a new short block or new liners.  You can google "land rover engine liner failure" to find more, or go to my blog which is robisonservice.blogspot.com and search the archive there.

Sorry the news is costly, but if you have done everything else right, that is what remains.

The only alternative is a workmanship error in the prior work.
