Honda Repair: air conditioning, enviorment, honda dealer

Question
Hi,
My 2000 Accord has 60,000 miles on it.  Recently, I have noticed that A/C is not blowing cold air.
Honda dealer wants to charge $180 to fix it (Refrigerant and dye - to find a leak). Should I let them do it, or can I do it myself?

Answer
Sue,
A/C work is very complicated. Also you can not fix it yourself unless you have your A/C certification, and the proper tools to work on the car. It is a federal law that you must be certified in A/C repair to do work on your A/C system, due to the dangers of CFCs in the freon. It is very harmful to the enviorment.
When you say $180 to fix it, keep in mind they are just putting freon in the system, and dye to find the leak . Once they find it, it will be additional to acutally replace the bad part.
Good luck and thanks for the question,
Gene
