So if I let it go will 5th gear eventually become unusable?

Question -
To the exclusion of all other gears when I shift into 5th gear over 55MPH the shifter chips/grinds.
If I am going 45 MHP for example there is no sound and it shift fine. What is the cause and how can I fix this?

You have a bad 5th gear syrnco. To repair it you need to disassemble the tranmission and replace the gear and syrnco. set. Not cheap! If you let it go ,it will slowly get worse, but will not cause any other damage to the trans.

Yes, but it will take a long time. Just shift it early and easy and it should last a long time.
Get the trans fluid changed BY A HONDA DEALER! We have special fluid that is made for your trans. It may help a little, but won't fix the damage that is already there.
