Honda Repair: radiator fan, fire hook, radiator fans

Question
gene,

thanks for taking my question. i was just given a 1986 honda accord. after a mechanic's tune up it works great. i just realized the radiator fans dont work. i have no leaks and it's not the fuse. can you  give me any advice? i'd like to fix it myself if possible.

thanks for your time.

Answer
Tom,
Thanks for your question.
There are many possibilities when it comes to electrial components not working. It can be very difficult to diagnose sometimes. What you can do is disconnect the fan at the motor. Get a jumper wire and connect one wire to the positive and one to the negative battery. (be careful. Do not touch the wires together or you will cause sparks and possibly a fire) hook the other ends to the radiator fan. (watch your fingers) if the fan runs, you know the motor is good. If not you have a bad rad. fan motor.
There are no other quick checks. You may have to take it to a shop if that does not fix it.
Good luck.
