Honda Repair: 95 Prelude, drive belts, timing belt

Question
I just bought a 95 Prelude thats done 191000kms. Should i replace the timing belt ASAP? or will it last till 200,000kms? I hear that if the belt breaks, thats the end of the engine. Is this true?

Answer
Gideon,
Thanks for your question.
You car is due for a timing belt if it has never been done yet. It was due at 145,000 kilometers and is now overdue. It can cause serious engine damage if it breaks. Usually about $3000 dollars worth! So yes, spend the $300/400 dollars and save yourself a lot of money. Also I recommend replacing the outer drive belts while they are in there. It is usually no extra charge labor wise since they have those belts off anyway.
