Honda Repair: speed sensor on a 1990 Accord, haynes manual, speed sensor

Question
I bought a used '90 Accord (automatic) The speedometer does not work, The "S" light flashes, and the check engine light comes on. I checked the codes according to the Haynes manual and it reads #17 (speed sensor) My question is, can these problems be related to a bad speed sensor? where is the speed sensor? And can I change it myself?  Thankyou.

Answer
Mark,
Yes you do need a speed sensor. They go bad often. It is located on top of the trans, near the firewall in the back of the trans. Acess it from under the hood. It will have a 3 pin connector going to it. Unplug it and then unbolt the 2 10mm bolts that hold it down. You will need a long extension to get to it. After you remove it, watch for the little pin inside that turns the gear. (the new sensor comes with one)
Put things back and there you are. Now you have no excuses when the police pull you over for speeding!

Good luck!
