Honda Repair: Brake & Rear ABS Lite, isuzu rodeo, honda passport

Question
1996 Honda Passport V6, Auto, 4WD, 89K miles (IE: Isuzu Rodeo).  About 4 months ago the rear brake pads were replaced and the rotors were turned.  Recently the Brake & Rear ABS lights come on after driving for a few miles.  Initially starting the car the lights come on and go out after a few seconds (normal).  After driving a few miles the Lights will come on.  What could be the problem?

Answer
Mick,
Thanks for your question. I will be glad to help you.
There are 2 common problems on your passport that would cause the ABS light to come on. The most likley cause is a broken wire near the left rear of the shock. (on the frame rail where the wire mounts) It was a problem with these cars and had nothing to do with your recent brake job. The wire was too short and got stretched, then finally broke. Any Honda dealer should not have a problem fixing it. Might cost you about $200. The other common problem is the speed sensor in the rear diff. The sometimes go bad.

Good luck,
Gene
