Honda Repair: Mechanical Question, o2 sensors, acura integra

Question
Just reciently my 90 acura Integra has been having problems sometimes starting. When it won't start the engine will turn, but it doesnt feel like it wants to fire up. It only happens if I had been driving for a while and I have to turn it off for a few minutes. Than when I try to turn it on it wont fire up. But If I wait a few minutes after I try to turn it on the first time than it will fire right up. Also A developement that has happened reciently along with the starting problem is the car is idoling very rough in rev. and park. In drive it only is rough when I am slowing down. I have done an oil change and a tune up within the past month. I had the transmission rebuilt about 3 years ago and I did check the trans. fluid reciently. I have been told the O2 sensor might be to blame but as I understand those should last the life of the car and rarely go out.

Answer
David,
A rough idle is almost never caused by the O2 sensor. A broken motor mount sounds more like the problem in your case. Check the mounts. Also check the PCV valve. It may be leaking.
As far as the hard starting goes< sounds like you may have a tight valve. As the engine warms up, the valves get tighter. A slightly tight valve will cause a rough idle. The valve does not close all the way and you loose compression on that cylinder. You can also cause a serious engine problem by burning a valve. I would check the valve adjustment.
Start there. PS. O2 sensors do go bad. I have replaced a number of them.
Good luck
