Honda Repair: Speed Sensor Location, honda accord lx, seperate systems

Question
I have a 1992 Honda Accord LX Sedan. My speedometer is very slow to get up to the correct speed, and I would like to know the location of the speed sensor on the transmission. The cruise control works fine, but the speedometer and tachometer needles move very slowly, but eventually measure the correct speed. Thanks!

Answer
Kevin,
Wow I have never heard that one in the 13 years that I have been working on Hondas. I question if it is the speed sensor though. Usually those speed sensors work or they don't work. But in any case, any thing is possible. The sensor is located on the top of the trans, in the back towards the firewall. It has a connector going to it and is not too difficult to replace.
But since you say both the tach, and speedo are reading slow, I would think that is would be more like a gauge assembly that has gone bad. Since the speedo and tach are two seperate systems. The tach works off the ignition coil, and the speedo works off the speed sensor.
One thing I would check first is the connections at the gauge. Also check the ground for the gauge assy. A corroded ground will cause unwanted resistance and may be causing your problem.
Good luck
