Hyundai Repair: 2004 Sonata, air intake hose, air flow sensor

Question
It starts and idles fine. When put it in gear and push gas pedal it sputters. I did timing belt, fuel pump, crank sensor, tps.

Answer
Hi, Jeff.  There are lots of possibilities in a situation like this.  The first thing I'm going to suggest is to retrieve the trouble codes from the engine control module if any are present.  Most major parts store chains will read the trouble codes for free.  If any are present, report the codes back here in a follow up, and I'll probably be able to advise you how to proceed.

If there are no codes stored, my ability to advise you further will depend on how well able you're going to be to analyze the problem.  If it's similar to a misfire, you should investigate the spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils.  If it simply hesitates for a moment and then accelerates normally, you might check the air flow sensor and the air intake hose between the sensor and the throttle body.  If you're unable to pick out what a misfire or tip-in hesitation would feel like, then I'm going to have great difficulty helping you, as I cannot feel the problem myself.

Ultimately, if you have no codes and aren't effectively able to check things, then in this case you're probably best taking the car to a mechanic/shop excellent in driveability diagnosis.  As we look at what you've done so far, we've already learned that guessing at what the problem may be can be quite expensive.  With a great many potential problems, your money is probably better spent at this point on a trustworthy professional diagnosis.  Once you have the diagnosis, you can decide whether to have the repairs done or whether to have someone else do them for you.  If you'd like, you can report the diagnosis back here, and I'll tell you whether it's at least plausible for the symptoms you describe.
