Hello, I have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata.  The other day the Check Engine Light came on.  It has never lit up before until the other day.  Are there any simple things to check for before I bring the car to the dealer?  Thanks.

Hi, David.  About the only thing you can check prior to having the car diagnosed (or the trouble code read) is the fuel cap.  If the fuel cap is not installed properly, the engine control module will detect a fuel vapor leak and turn on the lamp.  

There are so many other potential possibilities that it's best to know the trouble code prior to proceeding with any further checks.
