Hyundai Repair: 2000 hyundai excel (Australia), hyundai excel, rear boot

Question
Hi there. I have a couple of questions to ask.

1. The bonnet doesnt close all the way. But it still holds on to the latch. So its loose. I bought it over from a previous owner and there is a knock on the bonnet. Is this a problem with the bonnet or the latch itself?

2. The rear boot doesnt seem to work as well. I inserted the key and it wont let me turn it. ( might be the wrong key). So i tried pulling the the boot switch (beside the switch for the gas tank). And it didnt do anything (it was as if it was not connectd to the latch). So i went to the back and saw that there is a steel ball that is loose. I tried to insert it back onto the latch and when i pulled on the switch again, it just came loose. (i might have inserted it wrongly)

Answer
1.  The latch for the bonnet is a two-stage latch.  As long as the hood latches securely into each stage, The bonnet is safe.  You may be able to adjust away the looseness by adjusting the latch and hood bumpers, or it may be bad enough that the bonnet will need to be repaired.  You'll need to experiment with the adjustments to see how much you can accomplish.

2.  If the ball is loose at the boot latch, attempt to open the boot by moving the lever to which the ball attaches.  If the ball is loose at the release lever, try simply pulling on the ball to see if the boot releases.  Often, damage to the release lever or boot latch will occur if one pulls too hard on the lever because the boot does not open.  The ball will, in turn, then slip out of the slot designed to hold it.
