Hyundai Repair: 2002 hyundai elantra wiper linkage assembly, hyundai elantra, wway

Question
i just replaced the wiper linkage assembly on my friends car because the drivers side wiper would not move.  Now that I have attached the old motor to the linkage assembly, I cannot get the wiper blades to stop at the bottom of the windshield.  They keep stopping at about a 30degree angle.  When i trun off the wipers, the blades go all the wway down to the bottom of the windshield and then they go up about 8 inches or so and then stop in the middle of the window.  If I adjust the blades downward, then they slam down too hard at the bottom.  Is there something wrong with the new linkage or can it be adjusted?  I have tried about a dozen things and nothing is working.
Thanks, Scott

Answer
You'll need to reposition the lever on the wiper motor-- I presume you removed the nut on the wiper motor to remove the lever.

Remove this nut and again remove the lever from the motor.  Then plug the motor in (with the lever still off, and, with the ignition on, turn the wipers to low speed and then back off.  Once the wiper motor stops running, turn the ignition off.  This will result in the motor being in the parked position.

Next, you'll need to attach the lever on the motor so that it's pointing either to the left or right side of the car.  Which side will depend on how the linkage is set up.  To determine this, simply move the wiper arms to the park position and look to see which way the lever would need to point to reattach to the wiper motor.  Then bolt the lever back on the motor in this position.
