Hyundai Repair: timing belt - 98 accent, clock position, factory manuals

Question
How do you set timing by the timing marks?

Answer
On the camshaft sprocket, there will be a dot which lines up with a pointer/protrusion on the front of the cylinder head at about the 3 O'clock position.  While these marks are aligned, the camshaft dowel which aligns the sprocket will be directly above the sprocket bolt.

On the crankshaft sprocket, there will be a dot which aligns with a protrusion on the oil pump/front case assembly at about the 1 O'clock position.

When installing the belt, make sure there is no slack in the front portion and that is all in the rear portion.

I also encourage you to go to www.hmaservice.com and register for a free account.  There, you'll be able to see the factory manuals and diagrams.
