Hyundai Repair: a/c hyundai santa fee, hyundai santa fee, climate control system

Question
QUESTION: A/C is working good, but after Iam driving about 40 minutes the air stops blowing out of the vents. It sounds like its blowing from floor vents.if I shut down for about15 minutes then start it back up it works fine for another 40 min.
         Thank You

ANSWER: Hi, Steve.  You'll first need to determine where the air is exiting by actually feeling around.  It's possible that it's coming out of the floor and/or defrost registers.  Depending on the type of climate control system and the vents through which the air is blown, this could be either an electrical issue or an engine vacuum issue.  It's also possible that the air flow is being blocked, perhaps by the evaporator freezing.  I'm presuming that the dash vents are set in such a manner as they'll allow air to escape if directed to them.

Also, with that information, I'll need to know the year of your Santa Fe and whether it has automatic or manual climate control.  This will allow me to determine the manner in which the system is intended to operate.

QUESTION: Its a 2002 santa fee. It sounds like the air is trying to come out the floor vents but nothing is coming out.It has automatic climate control.

Answer
If you've no air coming out of the vents, check for a freezing evaporator.  It's very important, however, that you verify you do not have air flow out of *any* vents-- dash, floor, or defrost.  If air is coming out of any of them, a freezing evaporator will not be the problem.

In addition, check to make sure the mode actuator is working properly.  As you select the different vent output on the climate control head, check to see that the mode actuator appropriately moves all the doors to which it is attached, and that all door levers are attached properly to the mode actuator.  To do this, you'll need to look up from under the dash and watch what happens as you toggle the mode button.
