Hyundai Repair: hyundai compressor belt, hyundai electra, tensioner pulley

Question
how do i put an air compressor on a 2002 hyundai electra 6ls?

Answer
I'm presuming this is an Elantra GLS.

To replace the compressor, you'll need special equipment to discharge and recharge the air conditioning.  You can have a shop do this work for you and simply swap out the compressor youself.  To do this:

1. Have shop remove refrigerant and vacuum a/c system.
2. Raise right front corner of vehicle and place on jack stand.
3. Remove right front wheel.
4. Remove splash shield (two 10mm bolts).
5. Loosen 14mm locking nut on a/c tensioner pulley.
6. Turn long 12mm bolt to release tension on a/c belt.
7. Loosen 12mm locking bolt on top of alternator.
8. Loosen long 12mm alternator adjusting bolt to release tension on alternator belt.
9. Remove alternator belt.
10. Remove a/c belt.
11. Unbolt a/c lines from a/c compressor.
12. Unbolt a/c compressor from engine and remove compressor.
13. Install new compressor and bolt to engine.
14. Reattach a/c lines to compressor.
15. Install a/c belt and tension with tensioner bolt.
16. Tighten 14mm locking nut on a/c tensioner pulley.
17. Install alternator belt and tension with tensioner bolt.
18. Tighten 12mm locking bolt.
19. Install splash shield.
20. Install wheel.
21. Lower vehicle and recheck lug nuts for tightness.
22. Return to shop to have a/c recharged.

If you're only replacing the belt and not the compressor, omit steps 1, 11-14, and 22.
