Hyundai Repair: auto repair, crank sensor, fuse block

Question
i have a 02 sonata 2.7 had a shorted crank sensor replaced sensor still wont start. the wires at the base of the original sensor the insulation was gone and the wires were twisted together

Answer
Check the EGR fuse in the underhood fuse block.  The wires being twisted together could have caused the fuse to blow.

Check the old sensor for physical damage on the end that's inside the engine.  If damage is present, the tone wheel on the crankshaft may be coming loose or you may have an internal problem.

Check the old sensor for the presence of an o-ring.  If the old o-ring didn't come out with the sensor and the new sensor and o-ring were installed with the old o-ring still in place, the sensor will be too far from the crankshaft tone wheel to read it.

Out of curiosity, how did you initially determine there was an issue with the crank sensor?  Without being involved in the intial diagnosis, I'm also considering the possibility that there may be a separate issue causing the vehicle to not start.
