Hyundai Repair: 2002 hyundai sonata, 2002 hyundai sonata, hyundai sonata

Question
HI! I have a 2002 hyundai sonata, everything is fine until you get to about 30 mph, then it sounds like it is working very hard. it is shifting fine and driving fine there are no lights, however it sounds like the rpms are running very high.  they are NOT though, they are right where they are supposed to be.  thank you for your help.

Answer
If you have a four cylinder, I might suspect that the balance shaft belt is broken or that one of the balance shafts is timed incorrectly.  If it's been more than four years/60,000 miles since the timing belt and balance shaft belt were replaced, or if this issue started immediately upon replacement of these belts, it's more likely that this is the issue.

Another potential cause is that you may have a small exhaust leak.
