Hyundai Repair: knock sensor wiring placement, hyundai sonata, knock sensor

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2001 hyundai sonata it needs a new knock sensor bought one found where it goes but there is no wire to it i am pretty sure it was broke off by my local hyundia dealer when they replaced my sub frame because of a recall. I need to know where to plug the end of the wire in, if there is a wiring harness or what

ANSWER: Hi, Val.  There should be a wire of significant length coming out of the knock sensor.

If you have the V6 engine, there will be two knock sensors, each under the intake manifold, and with connectors at the transmission end of the engine near the intake manifold.

If you have the four cylinder engine, the connector is located near the thermostat and coolant housing.

If there is indeed no wiring coming out of the sensor, you should be able to find the loose end of the wire coming from the connector in question.

Lastly, I'll say that it's extremely doubtful any of this was damaged during subframe replacement.  Not only are the components and connectors anywhere near the components involved in replacing the subframe, they're enough out of the way that it would be difficult to accidentally come in contact with them.

QUESTION: have a 2.4 and there are 2 on it and one has wire and the other dosnt  and i can not locate the loose end of the wire have been all over the back side of the car where the sensors are located

Answer
The 2.4L four cylinder only has one knock sensor.  It is located on the back side of the engine (on cylinder #2, I believe) and, according to the electrical troubleshooting manual, the wiring should go to a connector near the front of the coolant housing.
