Hyundai Repair: 2003 Tiburon Grinding noise., sway bar bushings, hyundai tiburon

Question
Hi there,

I recently purchased a 2003 Hyundai tiburon Tuscan from a used car dealer.I drove and looked over the car and things are acceptable. 60K miles no accidents etc 5500.. the car was sold as is, however if there is a major issue i can contact the dealer.

Well i was driving it recently, and noticed something when i braked somewhat moderately. A grinding and slight vibration came from the front. The brake rotors and pads look fine. Also i heard a slight creaking, which inst a constant thing...but i thought indicated the rack and pinon. So im unsure if its the brakes or the rack and pin, since they both are putting pressure on the unit. I am going to take it for a review by a mechanic but wanted to see what a certified Hyundai specialist says about it.

So i would like to know what it could be, and if you have any other questions on condition i would be happy to answer them.

Thank you.

Answer
If the brake vibration occurs every time you apply the brakes at a particular speed, it's most likely due to an uneven surface on the front rotors and can be corrected by resurfacing or replacing them.  If not, it may have been the ABS activating (if your vehicle is equipped with ABS).  In the latter case, if one or more of the wheels was beginning to skid, this is a normal condition and needs no correction.

As for the creaking, it could potentially be a large number of things.  A common issue with Tiburon GT models is that the sway bar bushings and other suspension rubber components wear due to the stiffer suspension as compared to the regular Tiburon suspension.  If you can tell me the circumstances under which the creaking occurs, I may be able to provide you additional information on specific things to check.  Although it's possible this noise is coming from the steering rack, that's rather unlikely.
