Answer
Hi, Reece.  It's been quite a while since I've even looked under the hood of a 1986-1989 Excel, so I don't recall everything that may be necessary to remove for access.  I'll give you information to the best of my recollection, but obviously, use your judgment if something doesn't seem right.

1.  Disconnect negative battery cable.
2.  Remove upper transmission mount.
3.  Disconnect electrical connectors and vacuum hoses.
4.  Remove two 14mm bolts from starter.
5.  Remove the 17mm bolts from upper bell housing.
6.  Remove 10mm bolt from front of bell housing.
7.  Loosen front wheel lug nuts.
8.  Jack front of vehicle off ground and support with jack stands.
9.  Drain transmission.
10.  Disconnect shift linkage from transmission.
11.  Disconnect ball joints from control arms.
12.  Remove axle shafts from transmission.
13.  Remove remaining 10mm/12mm bolts from bottom of bell housing.
14.  Support transmission.
15.  Remove bolt through bottom of front mount.
16.  Remove last two 14mm bolts attaching engine to engine and separate transmission from engine.
17.  Replace pressure plate and clutch disc.
18.  Replace throwout bearing and fork pins.
19.  Install in reverse order.
