Hyundai Repair: Broken key in ignition, hyundai trajet, broken key

Question
A key (from another vehicle) has broken in the ignition of my 2001 Hyundai Trajet. The broken key is well down in the barrel and stuck.

I need to remove the lock barrel to replace it or if possible remove the broken key stub from the barrel. The lock barrel will not turn, so pressing the pin on the side will not remove the lock..

Any ideas? Could/should I just carefully drill the barrel out. Will this enable me to then start the car, say with an inserted screwdriver - at least temporarily while I drive to pickup a replacement lock barrel?

Answer
Drilling the lock out may or may not give you the ability to turn the cylinder.  If there's not steering lock and no shift interlock, you should be able to remove the ignition switch from the lock cylinder and simply operate the switch with a screwdriver.  If you do have either locking mechanism, you'll need to remove the whole assembly from the steering column.  When I've needed to do this, I typically used a hammer and ice pick to gradually turn the tamper-proof bolts until they were able to be turned by hand.
