Hyundai Repair: 2002 santa fe abs module, brake fluid reservoir, hyundai products

Question
Hello HT,
The other day I noticed a fluid leak under the front driver's side.
The fluid was light yellow, thin, and somewhat slippery.
My brake fluid reservoir was just at or slightly below the "min" mark.
When driving the car the "brake" light not the abs light comes on and off, I guess indicating low brake fluid.
The light goes off when I am completely stopped but comes on upon accelerating.
The dealer told me that the abs module is leaking and needs replaced at a cost of $1500+.
Does this sound reasonable?

Answer
Unfortunately, yes, this sounds about right.  While any brake system leak can cause the symptoms you describe, I have no reason to doubt that the leak is coming from the ABS unit itself; it's a simple matter for a mechanic to inspect the car on a lift and determine the source of the leak.  The ABS unit is not available as separate pump and electronic components, meaning it is indeed quite expensive to replace.  The price you've indicated is consistent with Hyundai products I've worked on that needed one.
