Hyundai Repair: P0455 EVAP Check Engine Code, hyundai santa fe, emission control system

Question
I recently purchased from the dealership (7days ago) a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe aprx. 49,900 miles on it. 5 days into driving it the check engine light came on showing a P0455 Evap Code, Emission Control System Valve C Short. What does this mean?
What could be wrong with it, and what will and won't the tech look for?
The dealership is supposidly going to fix it no cost to me since I just bought it and could not have caused it myself. Would this be something that could be covered in an extended warranty?
Any help would be great so I am not in the dark when they are talking to me about it, really, I am not happy with how the whole situation has come about but that is a different story.
Thanks!
Jacque

Answer
P0455 indicates a large fuel vapor leak, not a short in a valve.

This code can be caused by the following things:
-- An actual fuel vapor leak, either through a hose or other damaged vapor system component, or via a loose, incorrectly installed, or missing fuel cap.
-- A stuck closed purge control valve, which, during the self-test, will produce fuel tank pressure readings exactly the same as a vapor leak.
-- A close valve that does not seal properly, allowing air to be sucked into the fuel vapor system during the self-test.
-- Blockage in the line to the fuel tank pressure sensor, causing it to not see variations in tank pressure.

The problem may or may not be covered by an extended warranty, depending on the cause and the coverage provided by the warranty.  For example I know of no warranty that will cover the fuel cap being left loose.  On the other hand, some warranties will cover the other causes.
