Hyundai Repair: 01 santa fe transmission, torque conv, strawberry milkshake

Question
The car will not shift into any gears. It goes into park fine and won't roll. But when you pull the shifter down there is no pull, push, hop or anything. Its just like neutral in all the gears... there was no leak no ping bang fire smoke or anything. It just stopped working. I've read and talked to some fellow mechs of mine and they say torque conv or the pump... can you help please! The car had a coilpack arc issue( cracked sleeve)  that I covered temp with electrical tape. It was strongly missing and I don't know if that was a cause of the issue or not.

Answer
This issue is unrelated to the coil.  It's most likely in the transmission (or also the transfer case if a 4WD).

Check your transmission fluid level.  If it's very low, that could cause this issue.  If you fluid is low, and you have no external transmission or fluid cooler leaks as you say, check your coolant.  If it looks something like a strawberry milkshake (or has a coating on top that looks like that), the oil cooler inside the radiator has broken.  In this case, you'll need to replace the radiator and flush the transmission and cooling system.

Place the selector in "D" and check the speedometer.  Does it remain on 0?  If so, the problem is in the transmission.  If it moves off 0, you may have an issue with the transfer case or a popped out axle.
