Hyundai Repair: 2005 Santa Fe Trouble Code, fuse block, santa fe 2

Question
Hi,
The check engine light on our 05 Santa Fe (2.7 liter) came on, I went to the parts store and used their OBD reader.  There was a P0700 code and a P0885 code (TCM Power Relay Control Circuit Open).  Where should I start to trouble shoot this code?
Thanks!
Kirk

Answer
P0700 indicates the transmission control module (TCM) requested the check engine lamp to be turned on.  P0885 indicates insufficient voltage from the A/T control relay.

First, start the vehicle and drive it.  If it starts in first gear and shifts through the gears normally, we know this is an intermittent problem.  If it starts in third gear and remains there, then this is a currently occurring problem.

If currently occurring:
-- check the 20A ATM fuse in the underhood fuse box.
-- if blown, replace the fuse.
-- turn the key to the on position.
-- if the fuse again blows, you'll need to attempt to find the source of the problem.
-- unplug the solenoid connector at the transmission
-- again replace the fuse and turn the key to the on position
-- if it no longer blows, the problem is in the transmission
-- if the fuse blows again, you have a short in the wiring somewhere between the fuse
block, the relay, the TCM, and the transmission.
-- if the fuse does not blow, your problem is intermittent and is most likely caused by a
short in the wiring in the above referenced locations or inside the transmission.
-- if the fuse is not blown, the problem is most likely an open circuit in the A/T control relay itself.
