Hyundai Repair: 2001 HYUNDAI ACCENT 1.6, hyundai accent, belt tension

Question
HOW DO I CHANGE THE POWER STEERING BELT?

Answer
If my memory is correct, you'll need to remove the alternator belt on this engine.

First, loosen the 12mm bolt holding the top of the alternator in place and the 12mm nut clamping the bottom of the alternator.

Next, release the tension on the alternator by loosening the adjusting bolt attached to the bracket on top of the alternator.

Remove the alternator belt.

Loosen the bolts holding the power steering pump in place.

Push the power steering pump toward the engine and pull the alternator away from the engine.

Remove the power steering belt.

Install new power steering belt and pry the power steering pump out, achieving proper belt tension.  Tighten the power steering pump bolts.

Push the alternator all the way back toward the engine.

Install the alternator belt.

Tension the alternator belt by tightening the adjuster bolt on the bracket on top of the alternator.

Tighten the upper alternator bolt and lower alternator nut.
