Hyundai Repair: 2005 tuscon stalla, 2005, Hyundai

Question
Hello, We have a 2005 tuscon , v-6, 40,000 miles. when you start the car an go to pull away either in foward or reverse it stalls out an dies. The car will start rite back up an sometimes does this 3-4 times. Seems worst on first crank up of the day. could it be that the throttle plates need to be cleaned ????, also would cleaning mass air senser help as well, Or Iam just shooting in the dark ???, Oh check engine lite is NOT on

Answer
To be honest, you aren't really shooting in the dark, because there really won't be a clear cut answer to this if the check engine light is not on. If it was something to do with your intake system, and the Tucson dies when you start it, typically your check engine light would come on due to one of the sensors picking up an imbalance with the oxygen intake. Now, this is typically, so I am not saying that it is not your intake/throttle system. You can never eliminate a possibility in a situation like this until you try to do something with it.

There is many things that a problem like this could result from, and it will be very difficult for me to pinpoint an answer for you. To me it sounds more like a transmission issue or maybe a bad torque converter. From the way it sounds, the vehicle does fine until you put it in gear and try to go. If it is idling just fine, the intake would cause a disturbance then as well.

I am not too familiar with the transmission system in the Tucsons, so my best recommendation for you would be to call your local Hyundai dealership and speak to their service department. Just describe the situation to them and ask them if there have been other Hyundais with torque converter issues.

I am sorry that I cannot give a clear-cut answer now. I hope that you can figure out what it is and I really hope that it is a quick, easy fix for you.
