Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Santa fe GLS 2.7 V6, hyundai santa fe, air fuel mixture

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I have a diagnosed problem with my O2 sensor code came up P1166 on bank 1. I was wondering where and how to replace this sensor and approx' how much a new one would be. Does it have to be an original Hyundai part or can I go get an off the shelf OEM..
I know it is on the exhaust manifold, but what do I have to remove to get to it, can it be accessed from above or below the car.
Any help or guidence on this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Paul..

ANSWER: Hi Paul,
Bank 1 is the firewall side. You need to reach it from the bottom. No need to remove anything, just do not forget to disconnect the connector. It is underneath the air hose duct. I recommend you to purchase an original part. I think they are between 100 and 150.

QUESTION: Hi,

I took off the sensor you mention, but I have now found out that there are two sensors on Bank 1. one on the upper left side of the exhaust manifold firewall side and one on the lower right about 8" below the first one.
Is my OEM code of P1166 specific to one of these or could it be either one, I have been told that they are different sensors @ approx' $150 each.
My exact code read:

P1166 O2S Controller Adaption Diagnosis Malfunction (Bank 1)

it has two codes stored in my OBM reader 01/02 and 02/02 and both problem codes read the same as above. Could this mean that both these sensors are faulty.

Kind Regards

Paul

Answer
Hello,
Each bank has 2 O2 sensors. Upper (before catalytic convertor ) and lower(after cat.conv.). This code is a specific hyundai code and indicates upper and lower O2 sensors can not read each other correctly and that's why can not adjust the air/fuel mixture. Altough this code might be trigerred by upper or lower sensors (or maybe both), it is usually the upper one that gives up first. So I would reccommend you to replace the upper one (the one on the upper left side), erase codes and drive. If code comes back then you can replace the lower one too.
