Hyundai Repair: 2004 Santa Fe 2.7, purge valve, santa fe 2

Question
After I refuel, I have trouble restarting the vehicle. Also when I do not shut the engine off and refuel, the vehicle idle dips extremely low and resurges to regular idle about every 2 seconds until I either put the gas cap back in place (after which idle stability slowly recovers) or the car dies from idle going too low. The car seems to run fine unless I refuel, or attempt to restart within a few minutes of shutting down from a warmed up operating condition. I think this has to have something to do with the evaporative control system, but I don't know too much about the car and I am interested in any explaination for this problem that you might have.

Thanks,

Tony

Answer
Hi Tony,
You are right. This problem is caused by a malfunctioning Evaporative Emission Purge Valve. It is staying partially open and while you are refuelling , all the vapors in the gas tank is being pushed toward the intake manifold through purge valve. I think replacing it will solve your problem.
