Hyundai Repair: interior light question, hyundai sonata gls, 2002 hyundai sonata

I recently replaced the rear stop lights on our 2002 Hyundai Sonata GLS and now when I step on the brakes the dash lights illuminate and the clock dims as though the light are on. I never noticed this before. Is this normal? Also the front parking lights come on as does the light for the gear shifter. Is this a safety feature?

Hello Mitch,
I think you installed a wrong type bulb. Stop light bulbs should have 2 flaments.One for the tail lights and one for the brake. If you install single flament bulb , you are bridging these 2 systems and everytime you step on the brakes, it turns on the tail lights.
