Hyundai Repair: Check engine light on Excel, fuel management systems, fuel management system

Question
Sir(s),
I have an Excel 1,3l The "check engine light" came on. After stopping and restarting the car the light went out. I then drove  about 20 miles; no problem.
Two days ago, same story, but the car "held in" on pushing down the throtle AND on keeping a steady speed, like there was dirt in the fuel (there wasn't)
The diagnoses computer (garage)tells us, that the car is in tip-top shape! Nothing there that indicates any trouble.
Your thoughts please...
Regards
Patrick

Answer
Depending on the age of the car and the fuel management system, there should be a trouble code stored in the memory of the engine control module (ECM) indicating what sort of problem was witnessed by the ECM.  Since I have no experience with the 1.3 engine and don't know what fuel management systems are used with it, it's difficult for me to know anything for certain.

If the problem is currently occurring, you'll probably need to find a more capable repair facility.  If the repair facility is able to experience the lack of power, they should be able to locate and repair the problem.  Also, even if the problem isn't occurring, a trouble code will usually send a qualified and experienced technician in the correct diagnostic direction.

If the problem isn't currently occurring, it may be impossible to diagnose the issue at this time.  In this case, any tests the shop runs are likely to report that everything is normal (as the shop has reported to you).  If this is occurring, you may need to simply drive the car and take it back when the problem reoccurs.
