Hyundai Repair: 1999 Hyundai Elantra Front Disc Brake, hyundai elantra, phillips screws

Question
How do you remove the disc rotor after the caliper has been removed? It appears the disc is part of the hub. I am helping my grandson fix the brakes. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer
The disc on the 1999 Elantra should come off the hub without having to remove the hub itself.  Models which require hub removal have four bolts (with 14mm heads) through the hub attaching the rotor behind the hub.  If there are no such bolts, and you've removed any Phillips screws present which attach the rotor to the hub, the rotor is probably rusted onto the hub.  If this is the case, you'll need to use a heavy hammer (3 to 4 lb.) to knock the rotor loose from behind.  If you plan on reusing the rotor, be sure to use a brass or plastic hammer to prevent damaging the rotor.
