Hyundai Repair: Fueling, shade tree mechanic, charcoal canister

Question
When fueling my system doesn't seem to vent.  I have to pump slow (REAL SLOW.)  I'm a fairly handy shade tree mechanic.  Where do I start?

Answer
As a preliminary inspection, verify that all the plumbing appears in order-- nothing kinked or damaged physically that would affect fuel entry or vapor exit.  Presuming you've found nothing there, continue with the process below.

Bypass the purge control valve and run the engine.  This will introduce significant vacuum into the vapor management system.  Now, start with the canister filter as this is the final point before venting to atmosphere.  It'll be located at the left rear of the car near the charcoal canister.  First, disconnect the filter.  If this allows the vacuum to vent significantly more freely, replace the filter.  If not, move to the next component in line (either the canister or leak diagnostic pump-- I don't recall for certain) and disconnect it.  Continue disconnecting until you find the item that's clogged or stuck shut, preventing proper venting.
