Hyundai Repair: 2002 Hyndai Accent GL problem, throttle position sensor, trouble code

Question
When idling my car idles really high. If I tap the idle it will idle normal. It also idels high when driving so when you slow down it will shift to low but contiune to idle high and even with the brakes on it will shift to a higher gear.

Answer
Most likely, you have a problem with your throttle position sensor.  Hyundai had many throttle position sensor issues on vehicles manufactured in 2001 and 2002.  Often, the throttle position sensor will cause a diagnostic trouble code to set even if the check engine lamp does not illuminate.  If you're looking for verification, you can check to see if there are any stored trouble codes in the engine and transmission computers.  AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll do this for no charge.
