Hyundai Repair: 1999 Hyundai Accent (Canada) - Unsure Of What These Codes Indicate, transmission control module tcm, transmission control module

Question
Hi, I have a 1999 Hyundai Accent (L Hatchback) and I recently had two codes show up when I got it scanned. The codes were: P1613 and P0708 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit High Input. Any additional information you could provide me  as to what these codes are and what they mean in greater detail would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
P0708 indicates a problem with the signal received by the transmission control module (TCM) from the range switch (also inhibitor switch or neutral safety switch).  Typically, the issue is that voltage was received on one of the circuits when not expected, typically caused by a shorted switch.  P1613 simply indicates that the TCM requested the engine control module (ECM) to turn on the check engine lamp.

In most cases, replacing the range switch resloves the issue.
