Hyundai Repair: 1998 Accent Stalls and wont start again for 15 minutes, vacuum leaks, crank sensor

Question
The car stalls after driving for about 20 minutes.  It won't start again until it has 'cooled down' for about 15mins.  Stalls seem more frequent when slowing down.  Info:'98 Accent (manual trans).  183k(km).  Changed wires, plugs, fuel filter. Haven't found any vacuum leaks, checked and cleaned all electrical wires.  When it works in the begging it drives great - doesn't seem to lack power.  Any ideas?

Answer
If you begin to lose engine power prior to the stalling, I'd primarily suspect the fuel pump.  If the problem occurs suddenly, I'd suspect something more along the lines of the crank sensor.

For verification of the fuel pump, you can check your fuel pressure.  The pressure at idle with the vacuum hose connected to the regulator should be about 36 PSI and with the hose disconnected, about 43 PSI.  If your fuel pressure is low, replace the fuel pump.

The crank sensor typically stores a diagnostic trouble code, so I'd also recommend having your car checked to see if there are any diagnostic trouble codes.  AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll do this for free.
