Hyundai Repair: battery/electrical issues, check fuse, fuse box

Question
The battery in my 02 sonata died yesterday and I had the dealership check to see that it wasn't the alternator.  They confirmed that it was the battery.  I replaced the battery, but my power windows, remote entry, and parking lights still won't work.  Fuses (the ones I can find under the dash and hood) look fine.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Your electronic time and control module (ETACM) is the common link to all these things.  It receives the signal for the keyless entry, and it provides ground for both the parking lamp and power window relays.

But that doesn't mean the problem is as simple as replacing the ETACM.  To determine whether the ETACM itself is at fault, you'll need to determine whether the ETACM receives all the inputs it needs to receive.

First, check the power connector and recheck the fuses (all in dash fuse box) required for proper ETACM operation.  To check the power connector, try to turn on your dome lamp.  If you cannot, the power connector may be pulled out.  It's on the lower right of the fuse box.  Be sure it's pushed in.  Next check fuse 18 (third row, rightmost fuse, 10A).  It provides power to the ETACM when the ignition is in the "on" or "start" position.  Next check fuse 5 (top row, fifth from left, 10A).  It provides power to the ETACM when the ignition is in the "on" position.  Last, check fuse 24 (fourth row, righmost fuse, 10A).  This provides power to the ETACM at all times.

If all those fuses are good, you'll then need to use a schematic and test to see whether you actually have proper power and ground at the ETACM.  A schematic will be necessary to do this.  Schematics for your car can be viewed at www.hmaservice.com.  You'll need to register for a free account, and the site requires Internet Explorer.  Once logged in, go to the ETM (electrical troubleshooting manual) section and enter the year and model of your car.
