Hyundai Repair: Codes: P 1529 and P 0722, vehicle speed sensor, transmission control module

Question
I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent.  Recently my check engine light came on.  Took car to autozone and ran the machine that gave me these codes: P1529 and P0722.   Are these simple problems that I can fix or do I need to take it into a shop, if so, how much will this set me back.

The car seems to take a long time to pick up speed even if I am stepping on the gas.
Thanks,

Rick

Answer
If your car is a hatchback produced prior to 9/12/02 or a sedan produced prior to 9/4/02, you probably need to have your transmission control module (TCM) reprogrammed to correct a condition where the TCM  erroneously interprets electromagnetic interference as part of the vehicle speed sensor signal.  Your vehicle's production date will be listed on the VIN plate on the left front door or door opening.  Only a Hyundai dealer will be able to do this reprogramming.  Expect to pay an hour or two of labor for this.  The problem and reprogramming procedure are described in technical service bulletin (TSB) 03-40-016.

If your vehicle was produced after the above dates, you'll probably need to replace the pulse generators.  Expect to pay an hour to 1.5 hours of shop labor plus parts for this repair.  You could probably do this yourself if you have basic tools.  It's simply a matter of removing a couple access covers and removing and installing two sensors.
