Hyundai Repair: fan resistor, phillips screws, rubber stoppers

Question
2002 sonata, Where can I locate the fan resistor? Do I need to remove the glove compartment? If so how?
Thank you.

Answer
You will indeed need to remove the glove box and housing to access the blower resistor.  It's in the top side of the blower box.

It's been long enough that I don't remember exactly where all the fasteners are, so be sure to have a good look around on disassembly just in case I've missed something.  The instructions below are based on my recollection and information included in technical service bulletin (TSB) 03-97-002.  You can view the TSB at www.hmaservice.com.  The site requires Internet Explorer, and you'll need to register for a free account.

1.  Open the glove box.
2.  Remove the rubber stoppers (one each side).
3.  Push the damper cord retaining pin out through the hole in the side of the glove box.
4.  Remove the two 10mm bolts and two #2 Phillips screws holding the glove box in place and remove the glove box.
5.  Remove the 10mm nut behind the glove box latch.
6.  Remove the #2 Phillips screws holding the housing in place.  If I recall correctly, there will be two at the top and two at the bottom.
7.  Unplug the glove box lamp switch and remove the housing.

You should now be able to see the blower resistor.
