Hyundai Repair: 2003 Hyundai Elantra O2 sensor, 2003 hyundai elantra, hyundai elantra

Question
My 2003 Hyundai Elantra (with 60,700 miles) shut off on me 3 different times whenever I stopped at a stop sign, and it would all of a sudden lose power as I was driving. I took it into the repair shop and they said it is my O2 sensor. It will cost $360 to get it replaced as it is no longer covered under warranty. I don't know much about cars, so I have a two part question: does this sound like it is the cause of my problems? is the price normal for parts and labor for this problem?

Answer
Although I've seen it occur, it's very uncommon for an oxygen sensor to cause the engine to stall or have a lack of power.  Also, $360 seems a little on the high side.  At the very least, you should probably call a few repair facilities in your area to get a better idea as to whether this is a good price.  Many factors influence price, so it's difficult for me to make a concrete judgment.

Mostly, I'm very skeptical about the diagnosis.  Is your check engine lamp coming on?  If so, providing me the stored trouble codes may help me tell you what the problem is with your vehicle.  AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll check trouble codes for no charge.  If you have any trouble codes to report, please follow-up with them.
