Chrysler Repair: 1996 concorde fuel pump, alignment marks, level sensor

Question
after installing new fuel pump in housing assembly should it have a good ammount of resistance pushing back in tank against spring in assembly or did i do something wrong

Answer
Hi Charles,
I haven't done this replacement myself but have looked at the manuals and don't see any such resistance or spring to getting the pump back in. My '94 manual says there are a couple of alignment marks molded on the tank lip and the pump has a triangle mark that should be aligned between the two marks on the lip.  Also make sure the gasket isn't out of position relative to the outside or inside edge of the opening. The '98 manual says there is a notch in the side of the tank opening that should be mated to a tab on the circumference of the module, and if that were the case for the '96 also you might not have done that. If so, that would make the final mating at the closing together of the module to the tank difficult. The only other possibility I can see is that the wires for the level sensor are getting hung up but that shouldn't interfere with replacing the module proper. That is all I can offer, unfortunately.
