Hyundai Repair: 2001 Hyundai Elantra Coolant Sprays out of Radiator Cap, radiator tank, hyundai elantra

Question
Hello,
Yesterday while driving my check engine light started flashing, and the car overheated.  The engine cut out and when I checked under the hood, the coolant overflow cap had shot out, and coolant was sprayed everywhere.  Now when I try to start the car, it won't ignite, and coolant sprays out of the radiator cap.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
If coolant sprays out of the radiator when you crank the engine, you've overheated the engine to the point where the head is warped beyond repair.  You've probably also melted the plastic radiator tank or filler neck and clogged the radiator or prevented the cap from sealing.  At the very least, you'll need to replace your cylinder head (and thermostat for good measure-- it was probably the cause of the entire problem, considering you had enough coolant to expel it from the reservoir).  Also consider that you'll probably need to replace the radiator.  Once you remove the head, you should check the block for flatness and check the cylinder walls for damage or scoring.
