Hyundai Repair: hyndai Sonata 2005, phillips screws, sonata 2005

Question
How to the replace the restisor for the fan. Does the glove compartmet need to be removed? If so how exactly do you  remove it.

Answer
The blower resistor is behind the glove box in the top of the blower box.  You will indeed need to remove the glove box, as well as the right lower portion of the dash.

The procedure below for removing the glove box and portion of the dash has been taken from TSB 03-97-002, which has many good photographs.  If you'd like to view it, go to www.hmaservice.com (requires Internet Explorer), and register for a free account.  Select 2003 Sonata, and under the TSB tab, view TSB 03-97-002 in the Climate Control section.

1.  Open and empty the glove box.
2.  Remove the stops from both sides of the glove box.
3.  Disconnect the damper cord by pushing the pin through the hole in the glove box.
4.  Remove the two 10mm bolts and two Phillips screws holding the glove box in place and remove the glove box.
5.  Remove the two Phillps screws at either side on the top and one 10mm nut on the stud behind the latch.  (Check around for other screws and bolts on this dash piece.  The preceding are all that's referred to by the TSB, but I believe there may be others present, especially at the bottom of the assembly).
6.  Unplug the glove box lamp.
7.  Remove the right lower portion of the dash.
The resistor block should now be visible.
