Hyundai Repair: crankbolt, crankshaft pulley, pulley bolt

Question
I have a Hyundai elantra 2001 model (austalia) and I'm unable to loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt.Have used 1/2 drive impact gun and torque wrench unable to loosen it. Any suggestions ?

Answer
If you can, you might try wedging a large screwdriver in the flywheel teeth to keep the engine from turning and using a 1/2" breaker bar to loosen the bolt.

Another strategy is to use the starter to break the bolt free.  Take the 1/2" breaker bar and install it on the bolt so it's extending toward the front of the car and will stop when it hits the ground.  Then, use the ignition to momentarily engage the starter.  Make sure to turn the key back off immediately so the engine doesn't start running.  Usually, when the breaker bar hits the ground solidly-- may require a few tries-- it'll break the bolt loose.  If using this method, be absolutely certain no one is in the vicinity of the breaker bar.
