Hyundai Repair: Serpentine/drive belt and Timing belt - Replacement, timing belt tensioner, 2003 hyundai sonata

Question
Hello SIr,
I have couple of question, i have a 2003 Hyundai Sonata 2.7Liter - 64K miles.(Car is running smooth)

1) when should i get the Timing belt and Serpentine Belt replaced?
2) How much (approx) it should cost me to get it replaced?
3) should i ask them to replace any pully or something else along with this like water pump or anything.

I will really appreciate a quick response so i can plan this and avoid any problems.

Regards,

Josh

Answer
1.  Hyundai recommends to replace this belt at 4 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

2.  Cost for replacement will vary by the repair facility, the source and manufacturer of the parts, and your geographic location.  Call a few places locally and get price quotes.

If you're the original owner, you should use only a factory Hyundai timing belt.  If the original is replaced with a factory belt, Hyundai will cover the replacement belt for 4 years/60,000 miles or until the 10/100 powertrain warranty expires, whichever occurs first.  If you'd prefer to use a factory belt, specify that if you're asking for a quote from a shop other than the dealer.

3.  I recommend replacing the timing belt tensioner along with the belt.  If it fails, the results can be just as catastrophic as a failed timing belt.

If you're the original owner, don't replace the water pump.  It's warranted for 10 years/100,000 miles.  If you're not the original onwer, the warranty on the water pump has expired, and I'd say it's a matter of personal preference and philosophy whether it's better to replace at that time.
