Chrysler Repair: Transmission, chrysler sebring, sebring lx

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland when I am driving my car down the road and come to a stop my car jerks i know for sure its coming from the transmission.  I have done over 3 flushes, draining the fluid and replacing new filter.  Do you think it could be a bad transmission, or to much to little transmission fluid.  It just started doing it randomly just a jerk when i come to a complete stop.

ANSWER: Hi Josh,
If the dipstick shows the level to be OK then I doubt it has anything to do with the fluid level.
You didn't say what year/make/model you have but if it is a 4-speed electronic transaxle then I would suggest that you get a fault code readout via the underdash socket into which a code reader is plugged. An Autozone parts store will do that for free, or an independent shop for about $40. Get the code numbers, ask what they mean, and what they recommend. Then write back and we'll compare the codes against the Chrysler shop manual. But tell me the specifics of the vehicle.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: It is a 1996 Chrysler Sebring LX Coupe 2.5L.  I went to Autozone already and the only fault code that came up was multiple cylinder misfire.

Answer
Was that an OBD-I code (two digits?) or OBD-II (four digits?). '96 was the transition in the code systems and so if you didn't get a four digit code that would mean that the readout was of the engine controller only, not the trans controller which has to be read separately. Aside from going to a trans shop for their opinion based upon driving it, and/or their trying to get a fault code, I can't give you anything specific about what is wrong. I would believe there is a fault code stored in the trans controller so keep pursuing that diagnostic help. Otherwise you are faced with giving the shop a 'blank check' to do what they will with it.
