Hyundai Repair: Wiper Repair, hyundai accent, wiper arms

Question
While driving home in the rain, the wipers on my 2000 Hyundai Accent suddenly stopped moving. The motor still runs, and the two wipers can be moved together by hand, but the linkage has apparently broken or become detached.  Is this something I can repair myself, or will it require extensive disassembly that should be handled by a pro?  Cost estimate?

Answer
Chances are that one of the joints in the wiper linkage has worn and come apart and you'll need a new wiper linkage.  To replace, you'll need to remove the wiper arms and cowl.  Then you'll need to unbolt the pivots and remove the linkage.  The new linkage will snap into place on the wiper motor.

If you're reasonably handy taking things apart and putting them back together, this repair should not be a problem for you.

As for cost, your best bet is to call some places in your area and get a price quote for replacing the linkage.  Cost will vary by the shop doing the work, the manufacturer and distributor of the part, and your geographic location.
