Hyundai Repair: hyundai, air flow sensor, clutch system

Question
I took 1997 excel in for service. It was running fine. They told me clutch fluid needed flushing so I said okay. Next thing I know car is running like crap. Turns out I suddenly needed a new air flow sensor that they then charged me for. Being naturally sceptical I would like to know if they could have caused the damage when flushing the clutch fluid. Thanks

Answer
Here are the four scenarios I can foresee that could cause your problem:

1.  Air box or air flow sensor was removed for flushing the clutch system, and a liquid or other substance got on the air flow sensor contaminating it.

2.  Air flow sensor was disconnected during servicing and the mechanic forgot to reconnect it.

3.  Air flow sensor or air intake bellows was removed during servicing and not properly reinstalled.

4.  Pure coincidence.

If you've already had the repairs done and don't have the old part, there's no way to go back to verify which scenario occurred.  If that's the case, you'll need to ask yourself how trustworthy you think the shop is in order to make your opinion as to whether you'd like to take your car there again.  Without interacting with the people at the shop and developing some sort of relationship, it's impossible for me to make that assessment for you.
